Interactive Maps
Two Texas Department Of Transportation (TDOT) maps are located at:
County Number 198, Base Sheet 1 (Entire County); &
County Number 198, Supplementary Sheet A (City Of Hearne)
To navigate one of these maps, click on it. It will enlarge. Then, click on the area of the map you wish to see. Another map of the selected area will appear. You can enlarge the map by using the drop-down menu under "Resolution" to go to 6%, 12%, 25%, 50%, or 100% zoom.
Once enlarged, you should notice small black crosses enclosed in black rectangular boxes. These identify cemeteries. As the 50%-zoom map below illustrates, the New Baden & Mount Pleasant Cemeteries are clearly marked. The Brown #2 Cemetery is the unmarked cross on the road towards the New Baden Cemetery.

TopoZone offers very detailed, interactive maps of Bremond, Calvert, Franklin, Hearne, and other places in Robertson County (including many vanished communities & routes of country roads that no longer exist) at www.topozone.com. Under the "Get A Map" heading on the left-hand side of TopoZone's welcome page, you can search for places by name. Or, you can enter decimal degrees, degrees/minutes/seconds, or UTM coordinates (if you know them).
A map of most of Robertson County is located at TopoZone Robertson County Map. Once you pull-up this map, you can move it in any direction you wish by clicking on the eight bright green arrows on the sides of the map. It's best to place your cursor on a place of interest, then click your mouse. The image on the screen will reposition the map with your chosen location centered in the map and identified by a red target symbol. You can then blow-up the map to see as much detail as you like by using the "numeric" and "size" tabs located in the top border of the map. Using the numeric tabs on the left, you can shrink or enlarge maps from 1:25,000 to 1:50,000 to 1:100,000 to 1:200,000 (smallest to largest). Similarly, you can show greater detail by going from small to medium to large on the size tabs on the right. If you use the "1:25,000" and "large" settings, the locations of many (but not all) county cemeteries will appear. If you look closely while at these settings, small boxes mark houses, farm buildings, businesses, churches, schools; tanks, property lines, fence rows, and other features may also be visible.
The coordinates of where your cursor is located on the map are displayed in the lower left-hand corner. You can change this display from UTM (default) to decimal degrees to degrees/minutes/seconds by clicking the appropriate boxes. This feature enables you to record GPS coordinates for family farms, homes, barns, tanks, burial spots, commercial buildings, churches, schools, roads, etc.
TopoZone mapping information is based upon the U.S. Geological Survey's Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). Once the updates and revisions above are accomplished through the TDOT, an effort will be made to update GNIS data to assure that all Robertson County cemeteries and historic places appear in the future on TopoZone and similar maps.
The U.S. Census Bureau offers the following interactive map of Robertson County:
Historic Maps
Many of the images below are from the David Rumsey Collection by Cartography Associates at www.davidrumsey.com, which focuses on 18th and 19th century North and South American cartographic materials. The collection includes atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, and a variety of separate maps including pocket, wall, children’s and manuscript maps. The David Rumsey Collection contains a treasure trove of online maps of early Texas. Maps of Robertson County -- including periods when Texas was a part of Mexico, when it was a Republic (1836 - 1845), and after it became a state (1845+) -- are displayed below. Most of these maps were derived as follows. After searching for "Texas" using the collection's search feature, each interactive map has been enlarged using the zoom feature to display Robertson County as it appeared on maps for the designated years. Though mostly accurate, some inaccuracies do appear (e.g., an 1857 map shows the Houston & Texas Central Railroad passing through Wheelock on its north/south route; an 1847 map still shows Texas as a state within Mexico).
All images in the David Rumsey Collection are copyright © 2002 by Cartography Associates. Images may not be reproduced or transmitted unless for personal use. For commercial use or republication, contact rumsey@luna-imp.com. These maps may take a while to load at low connection speeds.
