The Head Cemetery is located in far northeastern Robertson County near the Limestone County line. It is off the road to the left when going from Headsville toward Bremond. It is located on a rise west of Hwy 7, east of County Roads 460 & 462, and east of Ebenezer Cemetery. Several of the tombstones from this cemetery, which is on private property, were moved to the Ebenezer or Headsville Cemetery. Only the stones were moved; there was no re-interment; the remains are still at the Head Cemetery. All of the stones that were moved are together in a group near the outer fence at the Ebenezer or Headsville Cemetery. A volunteer is confirming the accuracy of the information below and may add more burials that aren't listed.
According to Marci "Maggie" Beasley in March 2003:
"Head Cemetery has ten distinguishable rows with headstones and unmarked spaces to suggest the original layout provided for as many as 20 graves wide. Over a dozen graves are marked with red ore rock and several more with white stone. Five foot markers remain visible but do not have a corresponding headstone."
"In the far southwest corner of the cemetery is the outline of a bricked rectangle, similar to bricked graves at Ebenezer Cemetery. An outline, one brick high, remains at ground level with several bricks scattered nearby. Several bricks are missing from the outline, interrupting the original rectangle shape. There is no remaining identification to this area."
"There is no evidence to suggest the cemetery was ever fenced or, in recent history, blocked from pasture animals. Remaining headstones are in poor condition, broken from their foundations. However, the headstone of Rufus B. Bullard apparently fell off its foundation early after placement and now lies at ground level. It remains intact and is incredibly preserved."
"Another item of interest are two metal straps protruding from the soil, situated between two white stone markers . The 1-1/2" straps are approximately 14 inches apart, separated by a large buried piece of cut granite. There is no evidence of a headstone for this grave."
There appears to be some discrepancy relating to the relocation of some graves from the Head Cemetery to the nearby Headsville or Ebenezer Cemetery. Marci "Maggie" Beasley and Claudia Maple are trying to sort things out. The following combined list represents all possible burials at this cemetery, either past or present:
