A copy of this book was donated to this website by Clarence and Margaret Petty Adams. Volunteer Jo Ella Snider-Parker (SPJPVine@aol.com) typed this work for inclusion on this site. The original book (cover) is yearbook-style and includes pictures, names, & information concerning military service during World War II. The names of Caucasians serving in the military are listed alphabetically. A list of African Americans who served during the war is at the end. The information in this book does not appear to be complete or entirely accurate. Please e-mail additions/corrections to Shirley Cullum.

We have endeavored to obtain the names of those who have been killed in action and regret any exclusions.
(1) Claude Winston Ainsworth's name is omitted from the book. He was killed in action in France on 7.31.1944 & is buried at the Camp Creek Cemetery. His older brother, Chester L. Ainsworth, was killed in action in Italy sixteen days earlier on 7.15.1944 & is buried at Camp Creek as well. William Ainsworth is erroneously listed in the book as having lost his life in World War II. He died in 1995 & is buried at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. (2) Brothers Claude A. Howell & Clyde J. Howell were also killed in action during World War II. They do not appear to be buried in Robertson County.
Dedication
|
To the memory of those men and women who so nobly gave their lives for their country, we dedicate this book. We bow our heads in their memory and offer a silent prayer that they have not died in vain. |

The Negroes have made valuable contributions to all of the war activities.
Although the write-ups and pictures for
only a few are contained in this book, there were several
hundred men and women in the Armed Forces and
they have served in all parts of the world.
(Note: The original text, printed shortly after WWII, uses the term "Negro.")
