Long Branch Cemetery, Eastland County, Texas
The Long Branch Cemetery is located about 6 miles south of Carbon in Eastland County, Texas. Take CR 1027 out of Carbon, Texas for 3 miles to CR 411. Turn right on 411 and go 5 tenths mile to CR 295. Turn left. The cemetery is about two and a half miles down CR 295. The cemetery is fenced and is a very old cemetery. It is maintained regularly and is in good condition. The oldest grave is 1882 and the latest is 2003. The cemetery is located on land donated by R.B. Covington for the Baptist Church and was started in 1884 according to The Handbook of Texas Online but the first burial was in 1882. There is a marker on the grave of James Wesley Morgan stating that his is the first interment in the cemetery but the dates on the stone of Francis Elizabeth Covington shows her death year as 1882, two years prior to J.W. Morgan's, 1884. The cemetery has been enlarged in later years. There is a tabernacle nearby and there was a Baptist Church located on this property. There is a Historical Marker on the site where the old church stood. These are the words on this marker.

"Long Branch Baptist Church"
Formally organized on July 16, 1885, the Long Branch Baptist
Church
held its first worship services in an old schoolhouse on land
donated by
R.B. Covington. The thirteen charter members were served by W.B.
Cobb,
the church's first minister, until August 1886. Missionary Pastors
continued to hold monthly services over the years. The congregation,
which
built its' first sanctuary on this site in 1905-06, has provided
significant
service to the Long Branch Community and the surrounding area
throughout its history. 1985
Many graves are unmarked and many are marked with sandstones with the names and dates scratched into the stone. Many of these have weathered and are almost impossible to read. There are also many metal markers with no information on them. Any mistakes or omissions that have been made in this list are unintentional. If you know of such a mistake please contact us.
